After a ship sinks, the Satellite Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) automatically pops up and floats to the water surface, transmitting a distress signal. This distress signal is relayed to ground stations via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system, reporting the current position, vessel information, and other details. The EPIRB can also be manually activated in distress situations, such as piracy attacks. Thanks to the timely transmission of information, rescue organizations can often reach the distress area promptly to conduct rescue operations.

The 121.5MHz homing signal guides rescue units to pinpoint the target location at close range. The new performance standard IMO amendment has been mandatory since July 1, 2022, requiring new products to incorporate AIS functionality—and the CY-EPIRB fully complies with this IMO amendment. As the last line of defense for human life safety in marine economic activities, the EPIRB plays an irreplaceable role that no other product can match. This beacon is equipped with Return Link Service (RLS) functionality. The RLS is an indication on the beacon that confirms to the user that the distress signal from the activated beacon has been received by the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system and is being transmitted to the relevant Search and Rescue (SAR) authorities.
