Mooring cables perform multiple core functions in ship berthing operations, including the following:

Longitudinal positioning control

Head Line: Fixed at the bow to prevent the ship from displacing backwards due to reversing forces or swells.
Stern Line: Fixed at the stern to prevent the ship from sliding forward under the action of forward force.
The two work together to control the range of movement of the vessel along the axis (longitudinal) of the dock.
Lateral displacement constraints
The breast line is arranged perpendicular to the dock and directly tightens the distance between the hull and the berth, minimizing the lateral drift (side-to-side movement) of the vessel and ensuring that the hull is close to the edge of the dock.

Stable against environmental loads
The Spring Line connects the hull to the dock diagonally to enhance its resistance to wind and waves, currents and tidal impacts. By decomposing the force angle, the cable significantly reduces the pitch or roll amplitude caused by environmental loads.

Safe adaptation to multiple working conditions
The system can be flexibly configured according to the wharf structure (such as piers, pontoons, etc.) to adapt to changes in tide level, ship tonnage differences and complex sea conditions. Continuous mooring safety in dynamic environments is achieved by adjusting the number of cables, tension distribution, and knot fixing methods (e.g. double knots, tethers).
